Romance you step into.
Short, beautifully written love stories where you are the heroine, and every choice changes what he does next.
The last canvas is level. You step back, and the gallery breathes around you: white walls, rain on the windows, the cobbles outside gone gold under the street lamps.
Then you realise you are not alone. A man stands just inside the door, out of the light, his coat dark with rain. He has been there a while; there is a small pool of water at his feet.
“Your brother sent me,” he says. “He said you’d hate that.”
Something moves at the corner of his mouth. Not a smile; the place a smile would be, if he allowed them.
“Good,” he says. “People who hate it pay attention.”
He crosses the room without hurry and stops in front of the painting you have just hung, studying it as if it might be armed. “Third letter,” he says, without looking at you. “You told him about two.”
“Since you took your shoes off to reach the top hook,” he says. “Eleven minutes.”
He lets that sit, then nods toward the street. “Your front door doesn’t lock properly. Your back stairs don’t lock at all. And you hum when you think no one’s listening.”
A pause. “I’d stop doing the first two.”
